Textile recycling: a sustainable future

It is estimated that in several countries around the world, such as Bhutan, New Zealand, China and the United States, textile waste accounts for 1.0 to 5.1 per cent of the composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) and requires careful handling. In addition, almost 85% of discarded clothes end up in landfills and are broken down to produce methane, a harmful greenhouse gas and a significant cause of global warming, which raises alarm bells.
